Fire Safety Training

The Regulatory reform order 2005 makes it your responsibility to make sure your workplace reaches the required standard and employees are provided with adequate fire safety training.

Adequate fire safety training would generally include:

- Induction training (general fire awareness)
- Periodic refresher training (or where the level of fire risk increases as a result of changes)
- Training to support people in fulfilling their fire safety duties (e.g. responsible person)
- Training towards competence (fire risk assessment, fire warden, fire extinguisher)

Obtaining and delivering this required training with a minimum of interruption to normal operations is a significant challenge to may businesses, particularly in terms of employee turnover, holidays and working schedules.

Lancashire Fire and Safety is able to address these challenges by providing both interactive web based online training and traditional classroom style training. Both approaches fulfil your legal obligation to provide fire safety training to your employees.

Fire Safety Awareness applies to all employees. Often the most convenient, flexible and cost effective way to provide this course to your employees is via our online course that is administered by you using an online control panel where you can monitor the progress of all your employees as they proceed through the course at times most convenient to themselves and the business. The system provides an auditable record that you have fulfilled your legal obligation and delivers certificates to your employees. The course content includes:

Basic chemistry of a fire; Classifications of fires;

- Fire safety legislation;
- Correct use of fire extinguishers
- What to do if you discover a fire
- Fire routines & practical application of types of extinguishers.
- The importance of fire doors and other basic fire prevention methods
- The appropriate use of available fire fighting equipment
- General matters such as permitted smoking areas
- The importance of reporting to the assembly area

Training is necessary to ensure that all staff members know what they have to do to safeguard themselves and others on the premises. Training should be repeated as often as necessary and should take place during the working hours of individual staff members. Training is necessary for new staff when they start their employment or when changes have been made to the emergency plan or preventative measures.

Bespoke courses; Fire Extinguisher Training, Classroom Fire Awareness, or Warden/Marshall Training courses are all tailor made for your organisation, courses can run from 2 hours to 4 hours, and all delegates receive a Certificate of Competence which lasts for two years.

Lancashire Fire and Safety's Fire Marshall Training Course covers specific detail for each area of Fire Marshall and Fire Warden responsibility, particularly safe and effective evacuation procedures and site specific building safety information.
